As I approach the end of my BCG internship, I’ve started posting a lot more on LinkedIn. And since then, I’ve received a lot more connection requests and DMs asking me for interview and internship advice, especially from first- and second-year students.
This is a huge unfulfilled niche, and one that I found myself in a unique position to solve. I had these same questions when I was starting UCLA, and there was nowhere to go to get clear answers. I had to reach out to people, everything was unclear, and it kinda felt like building a bridge while driving across it — chaotic and very stressful.
And so, it brings us to this post!
I am so so so SO excited to share that this week, I started my new newsletter, Interosity!
Queue the cannons, fireworks, and confetti. This is exciting stuff!
Interosity was born out of a desire to share not just my personal experiences online, but also professional tips and tricks that I learned during my three years at UCLA and three summer internships at First Republic Bank, Kraft Heinz, and now, BCG.
Things like how to create a resume/LinkedIn, prepare for and crush an interview, apply for internships, and what working in consulting is actually like. This will eventually branch out to other areas as well, but we’ll start with those topics.
LinkedIn was not the best medium to explore these things, since its priority is on shorter, punchier content. Interosity will be the place I go in-depth for topics I couldn’t fully cover on LinkedIn.
Why the sudden desire to share these tips?
Well, I’ve noticed that the most first and second years at UCLA have a lot of similar questions. Things like what do I need to have on my LinkedIn? How do I apply for internships? What was your journey like at UCLA?
I was incredibly lucky to join a consulting club during my first year at UCLA, where a lot of upperclassmen spent a lot of time teaching me these things. As an upperclassman myself, I’ve spent a lot of time teaching these things to the new members of the club. However, everyone deserves access to this knowledge, and this gap is what Interosity was created to fill.
Now, on to some logistical things:
This blog you’re reading now has been renamed from the generic “Dennis’s Substack” to “Adventure with Dennis!” It’ll continue to feature my monthly recaps and detailed accounts of my travels. I started it to keep a memoir of my adventures, and it has done a tremendous job of that so far.
All of you that subscribed to Adventure with Dennis! are automatically carried over to Interosity, so there is no need for you to go and subscribe to anything new. Phew!
Lastly, there are three main categories you (the reader) may fall into. Here are those categories, and what I’d recommend you do if you fall into them:
You personally know me and signed up because you wanted to read what I’ve been up to.
This is most of you right now — I started this blog in Paris to keep track of my abroad experiences, and you first subscribers are from that experience. You’ve stayed here for months, reading what I’ve been up and staying in touch. Awesome!
If this is you and you don’t really want to read the professional tips and tricks, I recommend that you unsubscribe from Interosity so you don’t receive unwanted professional emails from me. Let’s keep your inbox full of the fun adventures!
And yes, the July 2024 recap is coming out very soon! Can’t wait for y’all to read it :)
You like my LinkedIn content, the fact that I work at BCG, and/or the recruiting resources I share. You’re here for tips and tricks to help you get an internship or prepare for an interview.
You likely signed up for this because you saw my weekly reports article from LinkedIn and came here for more things like that. Don’t worry, those are coming in the next few weeks on Interosity!
If this is you, I recommend you unsubscribe from this blog, Adventure with Dennis!, so you don’t receive unwanted personal emails from me. Welcome to the show!
You simply like my writing and are along for the ride, regardless of what I write about.
You’re just here for the vibes and want to see my writing improve over time.
If this is you, THANKS! You don’t need to do anything — you’re all signed up for this blog and Interosity. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the reads as they land in your inbox!
I’m so excited for this new chapter, and so grateful to all you wonderful readers that make this possible. Let’s get this bread!
-Dennis
Interosity is a combination of the words “interesting” and “curiosity”, which are two very important traits to me. I’m excited to see how the name sticks!
